Initial consultation includes assessment and time discussing initial findings. Short reports give brief details of the assessment and therapeutic aims. Longer sessions will be charged after the first 1 hour and 30 minutes at the hourly session rate. Detailed reports can be prepared if required and this will be discussed before they are written.
Therapy aims will be discussed and regularly reviewed. Therapy sessions typically last around 45-60 minutes leaving discussion time and explanation of activities to be practised at home. If the session is in hospital or similar environment then feedback will, usually, be given to a nurse or carer as well as the relatives.
Discharge from therapy
Speech & language therapists may withdraw from a therapy arrangement at any time following joint discussion. This may be if therapy is no longer required, is no longer effective or no longer required by the patient or relative.
Case conferences, multidisciplinary meetings and other related discussions are normally attended at the request of the patient/relative. These are charged at the standard follow up session rate. It is the responsibility of the family to advise re venue and times of meetings and of changes and cancellations.
Cancellations within 24 hours of the appointment may incur a charge of £50.00. If the patient is in a hospital or nursing home, it is the responsibility of the relative to inform the speech & language therapist if their relative is unwell or not able to be seen as soon as possible.
The Specialist Speech Therapy Practice Ltd has a policy in relation to the holding and using of information about you/your relative which may be obtained from you or other sources during your/your relative's treatment. This information may include personal details, details relating to your family lifestyle and social circumstances, education and training and employment details. This data may be shared with other healthcare or education professionals with your permission. This information is held in files at the Specialist Speech Therapy Practice, Keir House, Balmedie, Aberdeen AB23 8XR, kept in locked filing cabinets and also on our computers. This information is used for the administration of our service to you and for the purpose of keeping our records and accounts.
A report may be written to detail assessment and therapy and would normally be sent to the medical staff involved in your/your relative's care. It will be discussed with you and those who should be in receipt of such a report will also be discussed with you.
If you/your relative is also receiving speech and language therapy from and NHS speech & language therapist, it is good practice for independent and NHS therapists to work together collaboratively to maximise opportunities for effective therapy to take place.
Consultation costs / cancellation fee
For clients with private health insurance (PHI), please check your eligibility to claim and the level and nature of your cover before agreeing to therapy, including any policy excess to be borne by the policy holder, and any restrictions to your policy. Some PHI policies set a limit on how much you can claim or limit the number of sessions you can receive. Some PHI companies require the client to settle the invoice and then claim back. The client is ultimately personally responsible for paying the fees regardless of level of cover.
Invoices are sent out once a month. Payment terms are strictly 14 days. If medical insurance is in place, a pre-authorisation code will be required and it maybe that you are liable for some of the costs yourself. If you cannot provide a pre-authorisation code, you will be required to settle the invoice and claim back from the company.
